How to Renew Your Driving License in Pakistan

Getting a driving license used to mean wasting hours in long lines. Thankfully, that hassle is gone now. But when it comes to renewing your license, you still have to deal with the licensing office — and it’s better to know the steps before you go.

First thing: don’t wait until the very last day. Start the process early so you don’t end up panicking when your license expires.

Here’s what usually happens:

1. Get the form
You can download the renewal form from your city’s licensing authority website, or just pick it up when you visit the office.

2. Gather your papers
Keep a copy of your CNIC ready, your old license, and if you’re above 45, they might also ask for a medical certificate. Better to have it prepared than be sent back.

3. Pay the fee
The renewal fee isn’t the same for everyone. It depends on what category of license you hold. You’ll need to submit this at the office before moving forward.

Renewal and Late Fee Criteria

4. Submit everything
Now take the form, the documents, and the fee slip, and hand them over to the licensing authority.

5. Verification and collection
They’ll verify the details and, once everything checks out, you’ll get your renewed license. Sometimes it’s quick, sometimes you have to go back to collect it later.

A Few Tips

  • Don’t leave this for the last week — start at least a month before your license expires.
  • Call or check online for the exact fee and document requirements because they can differ from city to city.
  • Some authorities now allow online applications or appointments. If that’s available in your city, it can save you a lot of time.
