Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police is the provincial police force of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan's northwestern province, with Peshawar as its capital and largest city. It is headed by an Inspector General of Police, a BPS-22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, from the Central Police Office in Peshawar. The force works under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act 2017, which gave it administrative and financial autonomy. This guide covers the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa list only. It is the provincial companion to Narr's national police ranks page and to the Punjab and Sindh Police guides, because Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has its own recruitment routes, through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission and the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency, that the national page does not cover in detail.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police ranks from lowest to highest
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rank ladder runs from Constable at the bottom to the Inspector General at the top. In order: Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sub-Inspector (SI), Inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, also called Assistant Superintendent of Police at entry), Superintendent of Police (SP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG) and Inspector General (IG). Note that Station House Officer, or SHO, is a posting, not a separate rank: an SHO is usually an Inspector, and in smaller stations a Sub-Inspector. The force is organised into regional and district commands across the province, with specialised units including the Counter Terrorism Department.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police ranks, BPS grades and starting basic pay 2026
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police personnel are paid on the Basic Pay Scales. The Finance Division revised the federal scales with effect from 1 July 2026 through Office Memorandum No.F.1(2)IMP/2026, dated 21 July 2026, and the starting basic pay figures below follow that revision, as used across Narr's ranks cluster. They are starting basic pay, not total monthly salary, because allowances are added on top.
- Constable, BPS-07: starting basic pay Rs 19,590 per month
- Head Constable, BPS-09: starting basic pay Rs 20,990 per month
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), BPS-11: starting basic pay Rs 22,410 per month
- Sub-Inspector (SI), BPS-14: starting basic pay Rs 27,060 per month
- Inspector, BPS-16: starting basic pay Rs 33,720 per month
- Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), BPS-17: starting basic pay Rs 54,140 per month
- Superintendent of Police (SP), BPS-18: starting basic pay Rs 68,330 per month
Senior grades, listed without a pay figure claimed here: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), BPS-19; Deputy Inspector General (DIG), BPS-20; Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG), BPS-21; Inspector General (IG), BPS-22. These are senior Police Service of Pakistan posts whose total pay depends on allowances and posting, so no single figure is stated for them.
Grade mapping, confirmed by the 2026 KPPSC advertisements
The junior grade mapping above is confirmed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission advertisements of 2026. Advertisement No. 5/2026, dated 8 April 2026 and closed 30 April 2026, advertised 27 leftover posts of Deputy Superintendent of Police at BPS-17 through fast track promotion, 667 posts of Sub-Inspector at BPS-14, and 44 leftover posts of Assistant Sub-Inspector at BPS-11 for the Traffic Warden System. Advertisement No. 7/2026 advertised a further 123 Assistant Sub-Inspector posts at BPS-11 for the Traffic Warden System, closed 14 May 2026, and Advertisement No. 1/2026 advertised 165 Assistant Sub-Inspector posts at BPS-11. Constable recruitment in the province runs through the Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency at BPS-07, and Head Constable at BPS-09. Older guides that list ASI at BPS-09 describe an older mapping, not the 2026 advertisement mapping. If an advertisement you are applying against prints a different grade, the advertisement wins, because it is the document that decides your pay.
What the basic pay figure does not include
Actual monthly pay is higher than starting basic pay. Police guides list allowances including house rent, medical, risk, uniform and conveyance allowances, and the 2026 revision also grants Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2026 at 7 percent of running basic pay. Because the exact combination depends on posting, district and grade, no public source can give one exact take-home figure for every Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police post. Treat any single take-home total quoted by a job blog as an estimate, not an official figure.
How to join Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, and the last recruitment
No Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police recruitment is claimed open in this guide. The last recruitment covered here is the KPPSC 2026 advertisement series described above, which closed in April and May 2026. The typical pattern for constable recruitment, as listed by recruitment listings, is Matric education, age 18 to 25 years, male height 5 feet 7 inches and female height 5 feet 2 inches, male chest 33 inches with 34.5 inches expansion, and a running test of 1,600 metres in 7 minutes for men and 1,000 metres in 7 minutes for women, followed by a written test and interview. That pattern is typical only: the advertisement for the post you apply against wins on every detail, including age, height and domicile, which is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in these advertisements. Check the KP Police official portal and the KPPSC website, kppsc.gov.pk, for the current advertisement before applying, and do not apply on the basis of a closed advertisement.
