Punjab Police Ranks and Salary 2026: Complete List with BPS Grades

Punjab Police ranks from Constable to Inspector General, with BPS grades and BPS-2026 starting basic pay, and how the provincial list differs from the national page.

Punjab Police Ranks and Salary 2026: Complete List with BPS Grades

Punjab Police is the provincial police force of Punjab, Pakistan's largest province by population, and the largest provincial police force in the country. It is headed by an Inspector General of Police, a BPS-22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan, and is headquartered in Lahore. This guide covers the Punjab list only. It is the provincial companion to Narr's national police ranks page, because Punjab has its own recruitment, posting and station structure, including the Station House Officer system, that the national page does not cover in detail.

Punjab Police ranks from lowest to highest

The Punjab rank ladder runs from Constable at the bottom to the Inspector General at the top. In order: Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sub-Inspector (SI), Inspector, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, also called Assistant Superintendent of Police at entry), Superintendent of Police (SP), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG) and Inspector General (IG). Note that Station House Officer, or SHO, is a posting, not a separate rank: an SHO is usually an Inspector, and in smaller stations a Sub-Inspector.

Punjab Police ranks, BPS grades and starting basic pay 2026

Punjab Police personnel are paid on the Basic Pay Scales. The Finance Division revised the federal scales with effect from 1 July 2026 through Office Memorandum No.F.1(2)IMP/2026, dated 21 July 2026, and the starting basic pay figures below follow that revision, as used across Narr's ranks cluster. They are starting basic pay, not total monthly salary, because allowances are added on top.

  • Constable, BPS-07: starting basic pay Rs 19,590 per month
  • Head Constable, BPS-09: starting basic pay Rs 20,990 per month
  • Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), BPS-11: starting basic pay Rs 22,410 per month
  • Sub-Inspector (SI), BPS-14: starting basic pay Rs 27,060 per month
  • Inspector, BPS-16: starting basic pay Rs 33,720 per month
  • Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), BPS-17: starting basic pay Rs 54,140 per month
  • Superintendent of Police (SP), BPS-18: starting basic pay Rs 68,330 per month

Senior grades, listed without a pay figure claimed here: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), BPS-19; Deputy Inspector General (DIG), BPS-20; Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG), BPS-21; Inspector General (IG), BPS-22. These are senior Police Service of Pakistan posts whose total pay depends on allowances and posting, so no single figure is stated for them.

Grade conflicts, stated openly

Older Punjab guides list Constable at BPS-05, Head Constable at BPS-07 and ASI at BPS-09. Narr's own national police ranks page also lists ASI at BPS-09. The figures in this guide use the current BPS-07, BPS-09 and BPS-11 mapping for Constable, Head Constable and ASI, matching the Finance Division BPS-2026 starting basic pay used in Narr's ASF and Rangers guides. If an advertisement you are applying against prints a different grade, the advertisement wins, because it is the document that decides your pay.

What the basic pay figure does not include

Actual monthly pay is higher than starting basic pay. Punjab Police guides list allowances including house rent, medical, risk, uniform and conveyance allowances, and the 2026 revision also grants Ad-hoc Relief Allowance 2026 at 7 percent of running basic pay. Because the exact combination depends on posting, district and grade, no public source can give one exact take-home figure for every Punjab Police post. Treat any single take-home total quoted by a job blog as an estimate, not an official figure.

How to join Punjab Police

Constables are recruited at district level, while ASI, Sub-Inspector and Inspector can be joined directly through the Punjab Public Service Commission examination. The usual route is: read the advertisement, apply online, pass a written test, pass the physical test, clear the interview and medical examination, and wait for the final merit list. No Punjab Police advertisement is claimed open in this guide: check punjabpolice.gov.pk and the Punjab Public Service Commission website for the current advertisement before applying.
