Pakistan Police Ranks - Complete List with Insignia, Roles & Salary Details

Junior Ranks: The Backbone of Policing

Police ranks start with junior officers, who handle day-to-day operations:

Constable (BPS-7): Minimum requirement is matriculation. Entry-level role. The entry-level position requiring at least matriculation. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 48,000 and PKR62,000.

Head Constable (BPS-9): Promoted from constable after passing an exam. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 55,500 and PKR 65,050.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI, BPS-9): Next rank after Head Constable. Leads small teams within police stations. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 60,000 and PKR 85,000.

Sub-Inspector (SI, BPS-14): Often serves as Station House Officer (SHO) in smaller stations. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 60,000 and PKR 92,000.

Inspector (BPS-16): Usually the SHO, managing the whole station. Can be recruited through the Public Service Commission exam. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 80,000 and PKR 120,000.

Fun fact: ASI, SI, and Inspector ranks can also be joined directly through the Public Service Commission exam.

Senior Ranks: Leadership Roles

Once you move past junior ranks, you enter senior positions:

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP, BPS-17): Promoted from Inspector. Promoted from Inspector. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 120,000 and PKR 160,000.

Superintendent of Police (SP, BPS-18): Commands larger districts. Only SPs and above can carry a baton. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 160,000 and PKR 250,000.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP, BPS-19): Next leadership level. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 160,000 and PKR 250,000.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG, BPS-20): Manages regions, promoted from SSP. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 150,000 and 200,000

Additional Inspector General (AIG, BPS-21): Usually oversees major city operations. Also Serves as Capital City Police Officer (CCPO). Monthly salary ranges between PKR 200,000 and 250,000.

Inspector General of Police (IGP, BPS-21/22): Top officer in a province, chief of all police operations. Monthly salary ranges between PKR 250,000+.

Note: Titles like SHO, DPO, RPO, CPO, CCPO are positions, not ranks. They show roles assigned to officers.

Recent Developments in Punjab Police

Crime Control Department (CCD): Established on February 26, 2025, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the CCD aims to address serious and organized crime in Punjab. It operates its own police stations and has approximately 4,250 employees.

Punjab Enforcement & Regulatory Authority (PERA): Launched in July 2025, PERA focuses on market inspections, removal of encroachments, and regulatory enforcement across the province. It operates with enforcement stations, modern equipment, and trained personnel, including female officers.
