How to Join FIA Pakistan: Eligibility, Physical Standards and FPSC Selection Process

How to join FIA: BS-17 to Constable grades, FPSC officer route, uniformed physical standards, age limits, and the selection process, with no recruitment claimed open.

How to Join FIA Pakistan: Eligibility, Physical Standards and FPSC Selection Process

The Federal Investigation Agency, or FIA, is Pakistan's premier federal investigation agency, working under the Ministry of Interior from its headquarters in Islamabad. This guide explains how to join FIA, the two main routes, the grades, the physical standards and the selection process. Read the status note first: no FIA recruitment is claimed open in this guide. Every advertisement is different, so the advertisement you apply against is the document that decides your grade, age limit and test pattern.

Current status: no recruitment claimed open today

FIA posts are advertised through the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) consolidated advertisements and through FIA recruitment advertisements. Check fia.gov.pk and fpsc.gov.pk for the current advertisement before applying. Do not trust any social media post that claims a closing date without an advertisement number: the advertisement, not the post, is the source.

FIA grades used in this guide

The grades below follow Narr's FIA ranks guide and FIA recruitment advertisements cited there. If an advertisement prints a different grade for the same post, the advertisement wins. Assistant Director, BS-17, is the gazetted investigation officer entry point for FPSC-recruited officers across investigation, legal, technical, cybercrime, IT and admin streams. Inspector is BS-16, Sub-Inspector is BS-14, Assistant Sub-Inspector is BS-11, Head Constable is BS-09 and Constable is BS-07. Some constabulary categories such as drivers may carry different scales, but BS-07 is the standard grade for FIA Constable in recruitment advertisements. FIA wings include the Cybercrime Wing, Immigration Wing, Economic Crime Wing, Anti-Corruption Wing, Counter-Terrorism Wing, Technical Wing, Legal Branch, National Central Bureau and Anti-Trafficking Unit.

Route 1: FPSC officer route

Officer posts at BS-17, and BS-16 and BS-17 posts in FPSC consolidated advertisements, are applied for on fpsc.gov.pk. The FPSC pattern is: generate a PSID through the FPSC online fee payment facility and deposit the fee through the 1-Link facility (ATM, mobile banking app, Easypaisa, JazzCash or over the counter) before the closing date; complete the online application with personal details, academic credentials, domicile, quota category and, for government servants, the Departmental Permission Certificate reference; print and keep the completed form and the payment receipt; and download the admission certificate from the FPSC website when announced. No hard copies are required at the application stage; original documents are checked at the interview. The typical FPSC screening pattern for FIA posts is an objective MCQ test of 100 questions in about 100 minutes, covering English, general knowledge, Pakistan studies, Islamic studies, basic mathematics and subject-specific questions, followed by a descriptive test for BS-17 posts and then an interview. Confirm the exact pattern in your advertisement, because it varies by post.

Route 2: uniformed constabulary route

Uniformed posts from Constable up to Inspector are recruited through FIA advertisements, with physical measurement as part of selection. The typical physical standards in recent advertisements are: male height 5 feet 6 inches, female height 5 feet 4 inches, male chest 33 x 34.5 inches, and an endurance test of a 1.6 km run in 7 minutes for males and 10 minutes for females. Confirm these figures in your advertisement, because the advertisement can set different standards for a specific post. Typical qualifications are: Assistant Director, a Master's degree or LLB with experience; Inspector, a Bachelor's degree; Sub-Inspector, a Bachelor's degree; Assistant Sub-Inspector, Intermediate or a Bachelor's degree; Constable, Matric. Age limits vary by post: uniformed posts are generally 18 to 25 years with 5 years of general age relaxation under federal government rules, while officer posts in FPSC advertisements are higher, for example 22 to 28 years plus relaxation. The advertisement for your post sets the exact age bracket, so do not apply on a general age figure alone.

Selection process in order

The usual order is: advertisement and online application, physical measurement and endurance test for uniformed posts, written or screening test, interview, medical fitness examination, and final merit list. For FPSC officer posts, physical measurement takes place at the physical measurement stage prior to or during the interview. Government servants must obtain a Departmental Permission Certificate from their parent department before applying and mention its reference in the online form. Documents to keep ready are: valid CNIC, educational certificates, domicile certificate, passport size photographs, experience certificates where required, and the Departmental Permission Certificate where applicable. No salary figure is printed in this guide, because advertised gross ranges vary widely by station, allowance and years of service, and no single figure can be stated as official.

FAQs

Can I apply for more than one FIA post? Yes, if you meet the eligibility for each post, with a separate application for each post as the advertisement requires. Does FIA recruit through NTS or FPSC? Officer posts at BS-17 and above go through FPSC consolidated advertisements; constabulary recruitment follows the FIA advertisement for that cycle, so check the advertisement, not a general claim. What if I am a government servant? Get the Departmental Permission Certificate first and mention it in the form. Where do I check for the next advertisement? On fia.gov.pk and fpsc.gov.pk.
