On September 28, India and Pakistan play an Asia Cup final. Hard to believe, but this is the first time.
India looks stronger if you just check Asia Cup T20 results. In the UAE, they beat Pakistan twice. That record is there. But matches between these two never follow neat patterns. Pressure and history matter more.
Since 1985, both teams played five finals in different tournaments. Pakistan have won three, India two.
The first was in Australia, 1985. India won easily. A year later, Sharjah flipped the script. Javed Miandad’s last-ball six, people still talk about it. That one shot gave Pakistan the win and added a layer of tension that never really went away.
In 1994, Pakistan beat India again in Sharjah, this time by 39 runs. Then came 2007 in Johannesburg. First T20 World Cup. Close game. India edged it by 5 runs.
The last big one? 2017 Champions Trophy at The Oval. Pakistan blew India away, 180 runs. A result few saw coming.
So here we are. India’s got the recent T20 Asia Cup edge. Pakistan holds more wins in finals overall. What does that mean? Hard to say. With these two, predictions don’t last. All anyone can expect is pressure, noise, and plenty of drama.
