Punjab’s Traffic Crackdown: 40,000 Fined and 6,700 Vehicles Seized in Just 24 Hours

Punjab’s traffic police have gone all out in their latest crackdown, and honestly, the numbers from just 24 hours are wild. More than 40,000 people got fined in a single day, and if that wasn’t enough, around 630 public transport vehicles were caught overloaded. On top of that, over 6,700 vehicles were taken into custody. This is all happening under the new Traffic Ordinance 2025, which the government says is meant to make the roads safer and cut down accidents, but clearly it’s turning into a massive operation.

This whole thing kicked off on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, and traffic police are cracking down on everything—overloading, speeding, breaking signals, smoke-emitting vehicles, you name it. The fines alone have piled up into millions of rupees. Officials say the impounded vehicles will be processed one by one, and here’s the big twist: repeat offenders could even see their vehicles auctioned off under the new rules.

Meanwhile, Maryam Nawaz has given authorities a 30-day deadline to fix Lahore’s traffic mess, and she doesn’t seem in the mood for excuses. She said traffic violations will be treated equally everywhere, whether it’s Lahore or any other city in Punjab.

Her warning to the traffic police was pretty straightforward:
this is their last chance. If they don’t show results, a completely new department might take over. She even pointed out how other departments have improved but traffic management is still a disaster. In her words, traffic chaos and ignoring rules is basically challenging the state’s writ.

The Punjab government clearly wants the new Traffic Ordinance 2025 to change how people drive, but judging by these numbers, it looks like people will either fix their behavior soon—or lose their vehicles.
