Important news for those wishing to apply for a passport

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports is the authorized authority to issue new machine-readable passports to ordinary citizens of Pakistan.

Every citizen of Pakistan is entitled to a passport for travel abroad, as it provides them with protection during their stay in foreign countries through the country's embassies.

A holder of a valid Pakistani passport is entitled to the protection of Pakistan's diplomatic and consular representatives in that country when abroad.

In addition, the passport is the only document that confirms the identity of a Pakistani citizen living abroad, as well as realizing his right to leave and enter the country.

Documents required for a passport

To obtain a passport for the first time, the applicant can go to the relevant passport office or foreign mission with the required documents. The following documents are required to obtain a passport for the first time.

Proof of payment of prescribed passport fee is required through original bank paid fee challan (receipt) or e-payment confirmation details (receipt with PSID number, SMS, email).

The original must be accompanied by a valid ID card or a photocopy of the NICO.

In case of employees of a government, semi-government or autonomous institution, an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the concerned department is mandatory.

Foreign passport with its photocopy, (only for dual citizens).

Passport fees for October 2025

Under the latest schedule, the fee for a 36-page passport is Rs 4,500 for five years and Rs 6,700 for ten years under the general category, while it is Rs 7,500 and Rs 11,200 for urgent, respectively.

The normal fee for a 72-page passport has been set at Rs 8,200 for five years and Rs 12,400 for ten years, with urgent fees set at Rs 13,500 and Rs 20,200.

Similarly, the price of a 100-page passport will be Rs. 9,000 for five years and Rs. 13,500 for ten years under the general category, while urgent issuance will cost Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 27,000 respectively.
